1969/70 used 2+2 front springs in the 65?


On the 65 the plan is to use a pair of used stock front springs that Clint had sent me many moons ago (thanks Clint). I knew I might need them someday.

If I remember right, they were from a 69 or 70 small block TH350 2+2 no air. Could be wrong. The question is, will they be suitable for the 65 Sedan?

327/M20 in a 65. How do you think the weight over the front would compare to the 69? I feel the front end on the 65 is very heavy, so it would have to be close. And the springs are used, so seasoned so to speak which is good.

Any ideas?

Just flat I guess. Being used, they might be fine. I refuse to use new front springs anymore. They are never right.

I am betting if you put those used ones in it will sit a teeny bit up in the front, but that's just guessing.

I still have my 283 springs in the front and the car sits pretty much perfectly flat. The new ones I got from you years back have never even come out of the box!

I did contemplate using the original 6 springs, but I think she'd drop quite a bit. Although the car did sit fairly high in pictures when the motor was in.

Funny, I took the shocks out and placed a trolley jack under the arm raising the frame off the stand about 1/2". Zip cut the upper ball joint shaft right through the boot...and when it let go there was nothing, No pop or upward movement of the body at all. And this was with no engine in the car! 

I'm used to seriously cringing when popping the upper ball joint when pulling front springs.

I am quite sure you'd be disappointed with the 6 cylinder springs unless you want it pretty low with a rake.

If I remember correctly, the springs were from a 70 Parisienne or Laurentian small block car - but don't quote me on that.

Re the 6 cylinder springs, I always understood the 250 6 cylinder engine to be heavier than a small block V8. So I figured they'd pop the front end up a bit, not drop it down.

65 Laurentian 2 door sedan with 6 cyl = 3360# shipping weight. With a V8 shipping weight = 3510# ( taken from sales facts book )
