Another 30 days for the border to be closed

It's actually very handy living so close to the border. Too handy sometimes. It has cost me extra money on occasion....

And now the stuff will sit on the floor for a few days before I touch it.

Have heard a few rumours about US People getting into Canada by saying they are traveling to Alaska, but have been seen in Kelowna and camping in Banff.
Not Good, they need to get a hold of this issue. Not a parts issues, sorry. LOL.

Glad you finally got the stuff Carl. I have been getting some things delivered directly to home but I also had another company (Brothers), who said their local couriers wouldn't pick up for Canada, even though they were the big ones like FedEx and UPS.

"The border between Canada and the United States will remain closed for another 30 days,

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Tuesday (June 16).

The border has remained shut to non-essential travel between the two countries since mid-March."

You must be glad you didn't wait !

I'm glad, you are right.

And I think that's a good decision.

As much as it's a hinderance when ordering parts it's the right move.

I'm surprised the courier didn't hose you for brokerage fees, etc. I have packages sent to a location in Montana, and go get them and bring them back.

I tried an outfit that has a location in Montana, and they'll bring them back to Calgary for pickup. I used them once, and never again. I got taken to the cleaners by their broker, and then they have minimum amounts. Then their exchange rate was way out of this world. They said they buy US funds in bulk, I asked them if they bought them in 1994.

I felt this company was way beyond fair. They have a perfect situation to take advantage of customers and instead they give a very fair rate. I can't say enough good about my experience with them.

Has anyone else had any luck retrieving parcels in "jail" on the US side?

Every day I pass vehicles with New York plates on them that just entered from the US and think they just drove by my packages

What I found so painful was when I would be at the border and a mile across I could see the little town where my stuff was sitting.

I think there would be a great business opportunity here for a CP member in the US to get our stuff shipped to him, then send it to us in the cases of those sellers who won't ship to Canada.

they have taken my 25 packages and boxed them up into 6. They will ship them to Burlington ON where I can pick them up. Their cost of boxing and the shipping comes to $207 US dollars. I will still have to pay brokerage fees and HST. thank you covidcry

GOOD STUFF!

That feels good doesn't it? I only had 6 pieces and it was like they were being held for ransom.

I think the days of ordering stuff up to the border are done for a while. I'll just pay a little bit more and get it sent to the house. Besides, we are spending less money on other stuff now anyway because we are home so much.

all going smooth till the border decided to block independent courier service from delivering packages. They want the post office or UPS to handle packages. That will cost a toncry

No more hiring someone to bring the stuff across for us? The one I've used was in town again this morning when I was out biking and I never thought anything about it. It's normal to see them in town these days.

I've had success shipping stuff using UPS, FedEx, and the postal services, it just takes longer than it used to.

Canadians, in general, have been more sensible about getting the vaccine, but the Delta variant is in community spread in both countries, so the border blockage is pure theatre and politics. A vaccinated American poses less risk to someone in Medicine Hat, or Moncton, than an unvaccinated next door neighbour does. Uncle Joe can't open the border up to Canucks, without the hard left in his party screaming "racism and discrimination", if he doesn't start letting elective visitors through the southern border, which is a train wreck, right now. Moving the border enforcement folks back to the kiosks at Tijuana and Juarez would just make things worse along the vast, unguarded, border.

I just wish this thing was over. As I'm sure we all do.
