1966 Beaumont/chevelle front bumper differences

Good evening all!

I have a 1966 Pontiac Beaumont that has some chrome peeling on it. I have another bumper lying around which I purchased off another person on Kijiji from a 1966 beaumont 4 door hard top. Everything fits perfectly except for one thing, the hood release latch level. My old bumper had a hole for the level to go through just above the license plate. Do I have a chevelle bumper? Is there another way I can release the hood without interference with the bumper? Decent condition bumpers are going for $500+ + shipping these days. The one I got off kijiji, I only paid 75$ for and it's in great shape.

In hind sight, I kind of wish I bought that whole car, you never see 4 door hard tops.

Thanks!

I had never paid much attention to it, but now that you mention it and after reviewing, it indeed sounds like one of those subtle differences between the Beaumont & Chevelle. I was expecting this thread to be about the back bumper as the difference is obvious, but the front? Who knew? On the Chevelle you don't see the release latch but on the Beaumont is a little tab. It probably relates back to how the release hardware is arranged around the different grilles. lightbulb.gif

(Hmmm. Were the CDN built Chevelles the same bumper as the Beaumonts?)

I remember somebody on this site mentioning that they "drilled-out" a hole in a newly chromed Chevelle bumper to accommodate the Beaumont hood latch.

So does that mean the Beaumont hood latch is universal to pontiac beaumonts and they don't really differ much other than that? If so chances are I got a chevelle bumper off a 4 door hard top beaumont. If that's the case, how did they open the hood? Interesting...

66 beaumonts had the slot through the front bumper to allow for the hood release mechanism-66 Chevelle did not-period-wish I still had mine to show a picture.

I'll post a picture of a Beaumont bumper with the cutout. Stand by.

The picture is a bit washed out as my stupid flash kept going off for no reason but I think you can see what it looks like. Probably be a reasonably simple mod to do if you cant find a Beaumont bumper.

If you need better picture or measurements let me know.
