I was talking to another member who lamented the fact that our sister forum Canadian Ford didn't survive as there were some interesting Fords built for the Canadian Market. That got me wondering if there'd be any interest in having a sub forum on here to discuss vintage Canadian built Fords, Mopars, and orphan cars like Studebaker.
Cast a vote and if there's enough interest I'll set something up.
I make it no secret that I like many brands of vehicles, so I'd be all for it, especially Canadian-specific like Meteors, Monarchs, Plodges, Canadian Studebakers, etc. But, I'm just one vote, so...
Todd, it's your site. Do with it as you wish. Since you are soliciting advice I will offer my thoughts.
I used to get Musclecar Enthusiast magazine, then they folded all kinds of other makes into it, called it Auto Enthusiast and it kind of seemed lost to me. 1/6th musclecar & 5/6th other stuff I wasn't interested in. I let it lapse. Last I checked the magazine and Amos Publishing was gone and replaced by Amos Stamp Collections.
Don't try to be all things to all people.
A separate forum for other brands might get lost or remain undiscovered out there unless it has a lot of traffic & interest. It might dilute your resources a little. Still I'd be happy to talk about other brands of Canadian cars if the topic comes up. The folks I've seen on the site here seem pretty civil when it comes to other makes and I suspect many would also have stories to share.
Other brands might include Acadian, Beaumont...
You know, Rambler had very promising sales in Canada back in the sixties. As the 70's wore on AMC seemed desperate to make something different out of existing parts because they were too broke for huge investments. Still I remember a lot of Gremlins around back in the mid-70s.

I agree with MC.
At the same time, I wonder sometimes if the specific forums on other subjects have enough interest to stand alone. Case in point - and Todd you'd know much more about this than I would - but I was sorry to see your former 2 door post site go by the wayside. I don't know the circumstances but I also did not see anyone moving in to keep it going, despite the fact that there seemed the be an active group of devoted participants.
So the bottom line for me is that you should go with whatever model your experience as a host tells you is best.
With or without Canadian Meteor content, for example, I will still check in regularly.
I like CP the way it is, a mix of brands and people with different interests would water down the main reason the site exists.

I am kind of really surprised that the number for this is that high. I love all cars but my true love is GM and i am on a GM site and i would love to keep it that way. Yet if you look at the tally of the folks wanting Ford to come on board, it is really close. That really makes me wonder, should C.P. change their name to Canadian Poncho and Fords.

I don't think the idea was that extreme? Correct me if I'm wrong but it sounds like it would just be a sub-forum like the lounge, etc. Probably wouldn't get that many hits anyhow.
I'm happy either way, this is the best forum on the net.
Todd, I believe your idea is a good one. I, too, have been a long time member of several other car boards and clubs. I also agree with MC's comments. Pontiac is not the only obsolete automobile name. I believe that any effort to promote and maintain the names of other vehicles is honorable and worthwhile. I am very selective about the threads I read on this forum. Many are just blah blah blah, opinionated, and pompous while others are interesting and educational. If one is not interested in a topic, one need not click on it. In this contemporary, disposable world, any effort to keep the past alive is worth the effort as far as I am concerned. No vehicle brand is sacred; metal is metal no matter what badge one sticks on the fender, hood, or trunk. I know that some people are legends in their own minds, but reality would suggest otherwise. I appreciate the invitation to offer my opinion.
Is there any consideration of a fee system for sub forum alien contributions.
Membership?
There is always a need for extra cash to keep the Poncho site running.
CP is fine the way it is.

That's a slippery slope, though, because lots of guys here like to talk about cars that aren't 'Canadian Ponchos'... Do we need a 'swear jar' to talk about Cadillacs, Chevys, Buicks, Oldsmobiles? How about pickups? Chevy and GMC trucks are not 'Canadian Ponchos'. Just saying that we should be consistent in our assertions.
Besides, people should be donating to keep the site running no matter what you want to talk about... especially the guys getting all the help and info on their Pontiacs, Beaumonts, Acadians, etc. - they benefit the most from the site and all the hard work Todd puts into it.
It was a good idea, and kudos to Todd for putting it out there.
