Depress clutch peddle, stick shifter in 1st gear, rev engine to 6000 rpm, slip foot off clutch peddle to the left, hang on!

You seem trainable and you got a nice drive, should have it down pat by the time you get home. Plus itll make you younger and better looking. biggrin

Except the permagrin you get driving a stick car makes wrinkles around the eyes.... I just added to those wrinkles here this afternoon with a nice 20 mile ride, windows down and T-shirt, no jacket.

You know Mark, if you would delay a day here we could get that swap done. That would be one less thing on Kevin's list when he gets the car (if you don't decide to keep it when you get home!)

I just heard that BC is pulling a circuit breaker for Covid. Locking things down again.

True?

Not sure. Heard something on drinking hours but we really havent been locked down like most of the country. Our hardware stores and construction has never been shut down for a day.

I have been told if the fluid is red dont do any thing to it. Loosening any build up could cause troubles. Anyone else heard of this?

So just watched the news now. They have shut down inside dining for the next three weeks, shut down the churches which were supposed to be able to open for Easter but the big one is she shut down Whistler for 3 weeks. Our numbers have been running 500 a day for awhile but has ramped up to about 800 so that is the solution I guess.

 Yes.

And if I had a Powerglide with red fluid I wouldn't touch it. If it drives fine, no slippage and the one lonely shift is good I'd carry on...

But would you bring any kind of treatment with you just in case it acts up? I seem to remember a big hill between Vancouver and Calgary?

Mark,

Have a great trip. Don't forget a thermostat and some gasket material even a manila file folder will work.

Bill.

Mark, I use these road condition links from time to time, thought they might be helpful for construction, accidents etc.-

I second carrying engine oil with you. Years ago a guy that I knew drove a car back from the west. The car had been driven in summer weather but hadnt been on a long trip in years. Before leaving he had the oil changed and the front wheel bearings checked and a visual on the steering and suspension. Apparently the car drove really well and seemed well up to the long trip home. When stopping for the second tank of gas the oil light came on! A purchase of an expensive quart of oil at the gas station and then a trip to a store to buy a jug of oil. Every fill up the oil was checked and topped up as needed. The oil consumption improved greatly during the trip, and by the time he was back to Ontario he didnt need to add oil.

Heading home from the West Coast in May!!!! Splurged and got you new wipers!! You may need them!!!! As far as the trans fluid..will never touch. Have always heard that the cleaning agents in the new fluid will end up causing you grief. She shifted fine on the cruise home , remember this car was driven and insured when bought. May not be up to our standards (will fix) but no need to worry about old fuel in the carb/tank etc. Will borrow my buddies "R" plate once everything is fixed and take her for a good haul before Mark shows up.

Never mind the 4 speed or the BB.   By the time you have driven all that way and arrive at Carls in Morris,  you will just want him to install his world famous Cruise control!

Mark, Be sure to let me know when you are in manitoba,  will be nice to get together if there is time.

LOL, I thought of that the other day! With 2 of us working we could have it done in about 3 hours!

And yes, I told Mark I can host a coffee time here if nothing else. That way he wouldn't have to do another 1-2 hours on the road to run to the city for a CP coffee break. Lots of room in our garage for us to do our distance but by then we would hope it's nice out.

Dave, Good idea on the cruise kit as Carl has a wide inventory selection to choose from.

Mark, from BC to Manitoba, you would be advised to get a broom handle and cut the appropriate length to jam in between the seat and the gas pedal... Your leg is going to be numb after holding it on the gas pedal for 8 hours a day.  I don't know they did it back in the day w/o cruise!

Something like a broom handle isn't a far fetched idea actually.

When I did to Carl's and back with my 396 Grande with the 700r4 tranny I didn't miss the cruise control as I was passing everything on the road!

I don't know how I got away with it but it sure felt good. Unfortunately I don't think you'll be doing that.

As I recall. acceleration with a 283 2 barrel and a PG is leisurely but quiet, or leisurely but noisy if you really step on it.

Yes, way back when I did that black Grande Parisienne conversion (2012) I posted a picture of an apparatus I cobbled together to hold the tab in place for welding.

This should be a real easiest of peasiest of trips. Everything will be looked after and anything that is required will be completed. Remember my '67 Grande from Salt Spring Island? Other than bringing a starter with me, as advised, I went there BLIND. Bald tires, only 3 sides of a frame, no rear brakes, no fuel gauge. And the worst part, I had a fellow young passenger I had to bring home safe and sound to Mom and Dad!

Re Covid. I wanted to purchase a sled east of the 'Peg about 3 weeks ago. My buddy checked in with Manitoba health and they told him if we entered Manitoba, we would have to isolate 14 days. Not sure why but that was the case and the deal fell through. We could risk it but if we were caught, Sask plates, we were done for the 14 day period. So, you better dot your I's and cross your T's for EVERY province. There is as sigh at the border of Sask/Manitoba informing of such. Proof of vaccination should make it easier.

I was going to take my Estate to the Pacific last summer to finish my trek across Canada but I put that on hold because heard so many horror stories about out of province vehicles being vandalized, I stayed home.

Remember, I did Salt Spring Island to Foam Lake in my '67 Grande years ago with no real issues. My Estate to the Rock in 2016, which I still have to finish writing.

2 years ago this summer, I took my 311,000km '94 Roadblaster Wagon to the Rock repeat as well. Contrary to popular belief, I've gotta say, the most isolated part of the trip is the 'Peg run on the #1 to the city and there isn't anything to see after you get off the Perimeter to Kenora and basically most of the western area of Ontario. There isn't much for population to see at all. You will have the scope on all of that with the map for sure. I do enjoy the transformation of the Prairie to trees and vice versa on the return back to Sask. Roughly a 13,000kms round trip for me.

Nipigon to Hearst is the other barren stretch with no radio and up till my last trip the Roadblaster, poor cell coverage. But it has gotten better. Actually, it can be very quiet and somber till you get to Oshawa, on my route. Thats where the speed limit finally increases back to normal. And remember, once you enter Ontario from Manitoba, it is 90kph.

Just west of T/Bay to Kapuskasing took @6.5 hours. The LT1 in that car is a sipper of fuel usually getting @29mpg on the good flowing highway.

On my way back to Sask, I made the mistake of not stopping before Kenora for the night. The was no motel till the 'Peg. It was not a good motel I stayed at.

I had this one loaded with all and everything I thought to have needed. Starter, Battery, Alternator, new optispark, the usual fluids and tools. The only thing I needed was a right front stabilizer link kit.

All 5 of my 80+ year old chauffeured aunties loved the 10yr old field find Buick that was given to me as a gift by the widowed wife in lieu of a dear friend of mine who passed of cancer. Replaced the fuel pump and general fluid changes, set of brake pads and away we go.... Trooper played at their farm as a fund raiser and a 1-off of a lifetime experience, bought a t-shirt, had them all sign it including my pal and Randy rode in the passenger seat where ever I went. His wife and kids were with us every step of the way.

Randy named it Roadblaster, so it was fitting to have the plate printed in his honour.

I'm sure you won't have any issues.
