When I bought my 55 in Newfoundland I brought one suitcase full of spare parts for the drive home. water pump, points condenser cap rotor wheel cylinders master cylinder. etc. The only problem I had on the 2000 mile ride home was the accelerator pump . When the car sat overnight it was hard to start so I bought a 1 gallon gas can and primed the carb before starting inthe morning. I still have the same set of points in the car since 2005 and they have 12,000 miles on them. For your trip I would bring one rear axle bearing and have the front wheel bearings repacked. The 261 is a strong engine but it may make some lifter noise when start up on occasion with one lifter being really loud. Just let it idle. for a few minutes until itpumps up. Good luck on the trip ! Al
Thanks Al and everyone else. This is sage advice and it will be followed. I will post pics ASAP - The guy took the ad down and I didn't grab the photos or I would post them now.

Don't. Forget to change the thermostat. Had one stick on me south of Sudbury. Had to make a gasket from a manilla folder and use pond water to get me to Toronto. Good luck and have a safe trip.
Oh man thats wild. Good thing Norther Ontario is full of coolant locations!

Hey Guys where would be the best place to start a new thread about the trip? I want to meet up with anyone along the way who is around and or just know where people are in case I get into trouble. Thanks guys!

Hey guys - Tomorrows the day. I fly out and should be in Edmonton at 9:30 - then its registration and get on the road. I started a thread in the General 58-64 section if you want to hear about the trip Ill be posting about it in there. Looking for some parts along the way and will be trying to hit the swap meet in Winnipeg on Sunday. Thanks to all for the input and suggestions.

Good luck! In my experience with driving old cars a long ways, if you make the first 100 miles without something falling off or or seizing you should be good. I will follow your adventures for sure!

Not sure what you mean by "then its registration and get on the road". Are you trying to register it in Alberta before driving back to Ontario? Or buying some type of "In Transit" permit?
I have been there and it is truly a massive spot. If I recall its sandwiched between two through fares for several kms. Felt like it anyway.

You tripled Ken's prediction
388 km
Must have been spooky with the steering tightening up. Did you have a good LED flashlight to scope out the situation.
