66 B body exhaust system

I wanted to put a nice new shiny exhaust system on the 396 car so I ordered a system off eBay. I picked it up in Ohio on my way to the car show. After seeing it I figured I would use it on the L72 car

Soak in water and shrink to fit...! Just kidding.

Are you sure the rusty one is "original"? Having had a few GM performance cars, I would think that 2" would have been the low performance and 2.25 would be for the high performance option....
What car are you putting this on? Pontiac or Chevy....

Was it from this guy? I was super happy with the system I got from him for my 65 Acadian about 10 years ago.

I assume your L72 has regular manifolds on it, not the L72 manifolds? As far as I know, Gardner is the only place you can buy a system for the L72 manifolds.

 Carl I never thought about the manifolds. I do have the correct pair for L72. the red 4 speed convertible I plan to up grade 327 to 427 390hp so she will get the new $479 system. The proper L72 system from Gardner will cost a little bit more for the other build

A couple of 66 L72 experts told me that Gardner is the one and only option for the correct pipes other than getting a system custom bent at a shop and of course if you're looking for authentic a custom system won't be anywhere near the same as original.

Exhaust is all I have left to buy for my 68 427 Impala. I looked at the Gardner product in Carlisle a couple of years ago, but I have also read or heard somewhere that Waldron makes a suitable kit. Can anyone shed any light on this? Otherwise I guess it will be Gardner.

I've only read about Waldron on the forums but the reports on it seem to be very good as well.

 think the answer would be no but would Gardner sell just the 2 head pipes?

Correct, I tried that. I even got in touch with Leigh Scott who gave them the original pipes for patterns to make them. I thought if anyone had pull with them he would but they still told him no!

Any time I've heard of a guy buying a pre-bent exhaust setup that's supposed to fit, it hasn't. Guys have spent a bunch of money getting it to fit, or just throwing it away.
That includes my old buddy Rick (67rag396) for his 67 396 2+2 ragtop, he had to get it modified to fit properly.

 Boy that sure wasn't my experience with the Acadian exhaust. It fit really nice. 

And with that said, I just spend a couple of hours making the system fit right on a early GMC shorty stepside. The tailpipes were almost dragging on the ground because a bend on left and right exhaust pipes in front of the muffler wasn't near tight enough.

Best to head right to a muffler shop to install these system. The Gardner systema seem to be bang on but you pay for that
