My old house was on the water, the avatar pic of the 63 shows the Bay behind. My new house is not on the water and a bit higher up.

I'm assuming your generator is on standby again?

Juan was a low end Cat 2, and caused a lot of damage - mostly from downed trees - but not so bad to ride out otherwise.

A Cat 3 would be sketchy, though, not sure what I would do.  Definitely would be evacuating for a 4.

This one is going to be interesting.  Not sure what to expect from it, as it will combine with another system, and currently its track has it passing over eastern NS and PEI, and western NL.  A little shift in its track to the left will very much change its effect on us.  As it is currently, Todd will probably see some pretty severe weather, unfortunately.

From EC:

This storm is shaping up to be a potentially severe event for Atlantic Canada and eastern Quebec. Numerous weather models are quite consistent in their prediction of what we call a deep hybrid low pressure system, possessing both tropical and intense winter storm-type properties (but with very heavy rainfall and severe winds).

The latest forecast guidance brings hurricane Fiona off-shore to the south of Nova Scotia Friday night, passing through eastern Nova Scotia and Cape Breton Saturday, and then reaching the Lower Quebec North Shore and Southeastern Labrador early Sunday. Severe winds and rainfall will have major impacts for eastern Prince Edward Island, eastern Nova Scotia, western Newfoundland, eastern Quebec, and southeastern Labrador. There will also be large waves, especially for the Atlantic coasts of Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, and eastern portions of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Finally, there is a high likelihood of storm surge for parts of Nova Scotia, the Gulf of St. Lawrence and western Newfoundland.

Yes sir. All fueled up and tested. I bought a new one last year with a fancy remote starter. I filled up all the gas cans (gas and diesel) and brought a bunch of firewood inside. I am going to store the cars in the outbuilding hoping it doesn't take any damage and to protect them from flying debris. We have a lot of trees around us. I suspect we'll be without power for several days. With Dorian we went 5 days without power. According to Accuweather it's going to be a 24 hr event for us. The worst part is at night as you can only hear the wind and can't see what's going on outside. Screenshot_20220921-194516.png

For those of us in the path of the hurricane: It would be a good idea to take a bunch of photos of your property. Take photos of the house and other buildings from all angles (be sure to get the roof in the photo!) and also your vehicles if you have coverage for storm damage. That way if God forbid anything should happen you have proof of what your property looked like prior to the storm. I suspect we'll be without power for several days so if that's the case the October feature car may be delayed.
Good luck to everyone!

Thanks Todd, same to you and all others in the area. We look to get less wind and rain than you, so far but still a lot of wind and a whole lot of rain.

Sure hope it takes a turn into the atlantic, Todd.  Sound like you're prepared for the worst but lets all hope it doesn't come to that.

Unfortunately it looks like a done deal. We're getting hit. I'm as ready as I'll ever be.

Todd, when Juan hit Halifax in 2003, at 11pm it was still projected to hit Mahone bay at around midnight, instead it hit Halifax. It can swing in or out a bit at the last minute. That can be good or bad, keep your head down and good luck.

One of my favourite skits about Hurricanes, Ron White. Sorry for the one bad word.

The winds are picking up now. Gusts around 70k. The lights are already flickering so I don't expect to have power much longer. I decided it would be prudent to board up our large north facing living room window. Luckily I have a 4x8 sheet of thick OSB that covers the window nicely.

Just after midnight and we're starting to get hit pretty hard.  The wind is gusting and shaking the house a little.  The large trees at the side of the house are moving quite a bit and there are leaves everywhere.  You can hear the rain being driven into the side of the house.

Still have power, but it's flickered a few times, so won't be surprised if it goes out soon.  NS power outage map shows 875 outages affecting over 153,000 customers.

Things have just started up and are supposed to be bad for approx 12 hours more.  It's going to be a long night, and we are not the ones getting the worst of it.  Eastern NS and Cape Breton are getting whalloped pretty hard, and our PEI guys are going to get it much worse than us.

Best of luck to everybody hunkering down for this one.

Hoping for the best for you guys out there. Todd is fairly close to the water in PEI so probably gonna get hit hard.
Will be checking in for updates.

Update at 1:20 am:  1951 outages, 244,493 customers without power.

Ours went off a couple of times but came back on after a few seconds.  I'm sure it won't last for long.  Hearing some pretty big noises outside...  confuse

We lost power at about 110am, still out. Had about 70mm of rain, still pouring, temp 8c, wind 50 gusts 75, it was up close to 100kph for a while. For Todd, Im seeing 90 gusts to 120kph now and until noon, then 70-100 until 4pm before it backs off to 50-80. Rain at times heavy until 4pm. Gonna be a long day for PEI and Cape Breton.

It was quite a night. I'm using my phone data as a hotspot for internet. Power went out around 11pm. I have a lot of trees down- some of my favorites including a large maple. My woods looks bad. Luckily our house and building are fine. Cleanup is going to take a while.

Glad you made it through so good. I hear power out for 95% of PEI and 75% NS.
