66 sd console auto to 4spd standard swap


I am very happy to be on this site. This is my first post. In 1977 I had a 66 sd 327 2 spd car. Since then I have had many gm collector cars and have restored or modified them all to  some degree. I have just bought another 66 sd 283 2spd car that is nearly finished. It did not come with a 283 but did come with a muncie. Now my dilemma. I have been told a few different stories on this swap and I will not go into detail on the different tales I have been told. Canadian Poncho is the premier go to or so I have been told. So...here goes. Has anyone on here done this swap? Can I get some direction/ education on my best options on this project please? The big issue as I understand it is the pedal plate in the 66 beaumont is different than the 66 chevelle due

to the GTO/Lemans dash. True? If so what are my options? Will the factory 66 beaumont brake pedal plate accept a repop kit of 66 chevelle? Any and all retorts will be greatly appreciated.

 I got your private message and replied. I can answer a number of your questions using the GM parts book for interchange reference. And I can answer a number of your other questions based on my learning the hard way over the years!

The right side centre of your screen, right under where it says "logged in as" it should say in bold "1 new private message".

  I would take that to mean the pedal mounting bracket/plate/hanger/housing/support or whatever! I've heard that piece called many names.

So this is private messaging. Thank you Carl. I did not know that. Green as grass here as far as this website.  Here is where I am to up date you. 66 sd auto car, so floor console. I bought this as a frame off unfinished car from the family of the owner who passed away last December. It came with a rebuilt muncie which I want to use.  I have purchased a late crate sbc full roller carb to pan engine. From what I have been told the original automatic brake pedal plate that bolts to the under side of the dash and through the firewall to support the brake booster is not compatible with repop standard 66 chevelle pedals. Is this correct? Do repop 66 chevelle pedals work with the original automatic pedal plate on a 66 beaumont?    I have a complete set of 66 chevelle standard pedals and 4 spd accessory kit on hold with OPG in California  till 3pm tomorrow bc time.  Apparently if they go back in stock a sale that is on now is void and my price goes up.  So I am hoping this is as a simple ... yes these pedals will work.or no or not sure, response from you.  An interesting side note. There is a rectangular slot in the factory auto pedal plate in my car now that is apparently needed for a rubber bumper for the clutch pedal in a standard application.  Please respond to my query at your earliest opportunity.   Is your last name stevens?  No, this is the public forum, everyone is reading this. 

When we were messaging about this, that was in private messaging. Does this look familiar?

I was not aware that the repro pedals don't fit the original SD bracket. I do know 64-66 Chevelle and Beaumont 4 speed clutch and brake pedals interchange and original pedals will fit in the original automatic bracket. 

That bracket should have the slot for the clutch pedal bumper, yes because it's the same bracket on both auto and manual trans cars.

I can't speak to A-body cars, but on B-body cars to switch from 2 pedals to 3 you just:
- pull out the big pin that the brake pedal pivots on,
- pull out the old brake pedal,
- put in the new brake pedal,
- insert clutch pedal that has a big pin attached to it.
- insert rubber bumper for clutch pedal in slot already provided.
There's no big brackets to change, etc. (there's a few bits & pieces to deal with too, but nothing major)

Thank you for the response. On a couple of other Beaumont sites I was informed that standard tranny pedals were not compatible with the pedal bracket on a 66 automatic tranny beaumont. I am now finding this to be false.
