67 Grande. No dashlights.


Got the Grande out of storage today. Fired right up.

No dash lights...

Headlamps, running lamps and interior lamps are good.

 

Switch or fuse?

Hopefully fuse. I don't think this is an easy switch to obtain as it has a integrated vacuum switch for the lamp doors.

Certainly the fuse check is first. Those switches do come apart as I recall (all kinds of springs and little bits inside though).

If it comes down to being an internal switch issue, since it doesn't work now anyway, I'd pump it full of brake cleaner in case the contacts inside are gummed up. You have nothing to lose really by doing that.

My 63 had this issue a few years ago.

No dash lights and also no tail lights.

I didn't notice tail lights weren't on but it was dark and I got a lot of honking horns.

Replaced both fuses, dash lights came back. I don't know if the 67 fuses work the same.

"The power for the inst fuse comes from the tail lamp fuse.

Measure for 12v on both sides of the tail lamp fuse.

If your tail lamps work, it's not the fuse, but both fuses must be good to get instrument lights.

Don't just look at the fuse measure. 

The next most likely is the rheostat in the headlight switch, but not usually a problem.

Third most likely is the wire that feeds from the headlight switch down to the inst fuse,

but again not usually a problem unless you've been messing with wires. "

No mice Todd. Not a trace of one in 12 years which is amazing to me. Always a few feral cats in and around. He makes sure they are well. Smart guy, says the coyotes are the main threat to the cats. Kills 25 or so a year. I cringe at that, but he's a farmer. after all.

Taillights come on George.

I seem to remember that tailights and dash lights are on the same circuit for a reason. Driving you wouldn't normally notice that the taillights are out but would quickly react to no dash lights.

Yep, just a fuse. I'm happy.

Did the GM's of this era came with colour coded fuses? This 4 amp one, and maybe a couple others in the block had a pink stripe. If yes, I'm assuming it was original?

None of my 1969 fuses have stripes.

Corvettes were colour coded for years. I know as far as 72 they were coded..

The Corvette purists will tell you, that early '67 models and before, used the clear fuses and the late '67-'72 used color banded fuses. They make reproduction color banded fuses, however, the reproductions have the band painted on the outside, and the originals were painted on the inside. My dad's '69 Catalina had the color banded fuses.
