69-70 disc brakes, what pieces to grab

So I found a 69-70 disc brake setup but it's very rusty.

For sure the calipers are junk, I don't think anyone would even accept them as a core.

Backing plates are quite rusty at the bottom from sitting on the ground.

Spindles are good, steering arms are good, caliper mounting brackets are good.

What is worth grabbing? I know there's been talk in this 65-70 group about some of the parts being hard to find and worth grabbing if found.

Thanks!

I looked at the backing plates and if it was me I'd take time and repair them using backing plate pieces from good shields off a pickup or later car maybe?

So the spindles are unique, not the same as anything else? For some reason I thought I had read on here at some point that the spindle is the same as something else common.

Spindles are never a problem to get Carl. They are all over.

First, get those steering arms along with the stubby bracket bolts, and the 2 main bolts ( if they'll budge)

Next, snag those caliper brackets.

And yes, the shields if they are not destroyed.

Bundle it all up and yell out "Start the car" as you run out of the field...

LOL, these will be purchased a bit more legitimately!

I won't grab the spindles then unless they are cheap.

You haven't mentioned the hubs & rotors. The disc brake hubs are different than the drum brake ones. Centric makes replacement rotors to go behind the disc brake hubs, or Corvette rotors can be used on top of the drum brake hubs.

The rotors themselves are so badly rust pitted they are junk but I may have to take them if I can't get the hubs separated.

Look for a station wagon with 4 piston set up and your home free.

have the calipers inserted with stainless and no worrys about leaky calipers.

Thanks John, I picked up the stuff but I know the backing plates are rusty. Also I think 2 caliper bolts are missing.

I'll be back to you in a day or two. Thanks!

Take it all. Those rusty callipers are still cores for reman calipers. I would definitely stick with the single piston caliper. - same pads as pickups up to87. Master cylinder is still available new but dont forget to scoop that proportioning valve. - very hard to find. As Clint mentioned rotors are available and so are the hoses. Also easy to rebearing the hubs.

Whenever I find the single piston 69-70 setups, I buy whatever the seller has. I picked up three sets, less rotors and calipers, the last time I was in Alberta. But they are getting scarce. The best sources are still like to be any 70 Caprice or Impala custom 2 door as disc brakes were standard equipment on these two models only in 1970.
