Power window, vent, lock switch mounting

I did this about a dozen years ago on the black Grande Parisienne that Tom has in Edmonton now. It was time to do it again on my yellow car. Kept putting it off because it's a bit scary cutting into a perfectly good door panel but sooner or later it had to happen. Today seemed like a good day to do it. This car is a factory power window car so I just had to alter the vent window control opening to accommodate a switch rather than a crank and then cut a brand new hole for a power lock switch.

Measure, measure, measure and then measure some more. Finally the blade comes out and there's no point in measuring any more times!

It all worked out in the end. The hard side is done, next up, passenger side.

Clean!

Can you take a shot showing how they clip into the panel?

Sure, I should be back in the garage later this afternoon and I can do it then.

Wow! And to think I had my greasy, pudgy elbow on what is now the best equipped door panel in Canada!

This is the back of the master switch. The outer ring is what you are seeing. It get installed first. The tabs are straight when you install it, then you bend them over to hold it in place. There's a ring that clips onto the switch and it has a couple of spring steel clips that snap into the ring that is attached to the panel. I'll see if I can find a picture of one of those because I don't have on loose to show you.

Here's the power vent switch I bought. (Ebay picture)

The pad protector is the ring that goes into the panel and is secured by bending the tabs. The retainer holds onto the switch as well as the pad protector when it's snapped into place.

Still missing a remote mirror but I keep looking. I'll find one yet.
