RE: what was the first car that "you" bought, and how old were you?

My first car ever is a 1937 Dodge Brothers 2 door when I was 11, my first driver was a 1983 Ford Escort with an 82 EXP nose on it when I was 12! Drove the Escort from the time I was 12 till 16, got my license when I was 17...LOL

1970 Impala 4dr sedan with the 300hp 350.  Paid $850 from the original owner and then I wrapped it around a steel light standard 6 months later.doh

It looked just like this car except it was light blue.  Wish I had a pic of it.  I had vette ralley wheels on it too.

58 ford four door sedan, six cylinder standard with a tooth missing in first gear. Bought it for $50.00 from my shop teacher in 1969 when I was 15. The one thing I remember most of that car is how bleak the instrument cluster was. Next car was a 50 Chevy and has been GMs ever since with the odd ford or dodge here and there.Kept a record of cars till 1992 when I built a tow truck and just stopped keeping track. Last recorded purchase was at 177 cars, usually bought broken or dead, fixed, driven for a while then sold to buy the next project. Cars were cheap, Gas was cheap, Fun times indeed.

When I was 17 I bought a 1966 Chevy 2, 2 door post L79 for the princely sum of $1800 . Marina Blue, with 29,000 or so miles. It got 6 miles to the gallon (high test only at .42cents a gallon)with 4.56 gears! Was a 1/4 mile terror, blew off a '69 Hemi/auto Roadrunner in Kincardine one night by 8 lengths!

The first car I bought was a 72 Ventura, but before that a relative gave me a 65 Buick Special 4 door sedan with a 231 V6 - this long before the rest of GM embraced the V6. The car was a really good looking aqua on teal, and my father and I fixed it up a bit (brakes, exhaust, etc). After I started to use it I ran into 2 problems. 1. it sucked gas (just a few mpg), and 2. it had a hole in the gas tank that only allowed me to fill it up with a few gallons. Bottom line was I couldn't afford to drive it (this was just after the first OPEC price spike in 73/74)

The gas tank I could handle but I had no idea how to make the engine run to get any better than a few miles to the gallon. In hindsight I should have bought the abandoned 67 Bel Air next door an put its 250 6 in the Buick. But I was 16 and knew nothing about cars - didn't know where to start and my father didn't have the time.

I ended up selling it for $100.00. Later the same night I got a visit from the police as the car was in my name. The car was impounded; the buyer was a hard ticket who they picked up speeding back and forth across a residential street. I never got in trouble over it as I had a bill of sale, but other than visiting the car at the impound yard that evening I never saw it again. Always regretted that my lack of knowledge let this one get away from me.

I had a bit of a laugh reading these posts. Non of you guys real piece of ...... like me. I had an ex BC hydro K car. 1981 2.6L HEMI. It even had the hemi emblem on the fenders. Green on green with no options. The rear windows didn't even roll down. I was 16 and it kept me from walking in the rain or taking the 32 window coupe.

My first car was a 1954 chev 210 2dr at 14, but didn't pay for and never did drive it so doesn't count. First one I could drive was a 78 Ford Courier pick up, hand me down from my Dad, fix it you can drive it, so still doesn't count. Sold the Ford and bought a 78 Pontiac Phoenix 4dr for $300 when I was 18.

Ya but yours made 3 times the power!! SWEET, I still love those trucks...I guess you never forget your first eh!  I'd love to come across a syclone or typhoon that is unmolested to add to my fleet.  Or better yet a S-10 to put a LS series small block into!

1949 Pontiac at 14 years old for $10.00
It never saw the open highway.
Too young to be on the highway so I used it as a field car.

Mine was an '88 Mustang LX 5.0L I turned 22 during the summer of '87 and I had just got my first full time job. Didn't want something used so I turned down a 1969 Boss 429 that a friend offered to me for 11,000$!

Looked at a few cars, Olds 442, Monte Carlo SS. The Camaro had just come out with their 350 TPI motor but it only was an automatic and I wanted a stick. Until my Dad and me went to City Buick/Pontiac on Vic. Park where we found a row of at least 10 Grand Prix 2+2's. It was love at first site but the more I looked at it I realized it wasn't that fast. So back to Ford we went.

Ordered my LX in Midnight Blue and was supposed to take delivery in 6-8 weeks. Well low and behold the car comes in and since we ordered it through the fleet manager someone else snuck in underneath us and sold it to someone else. So we ordered another one with a few different options and took delivery Dec. 16, 1987.

Still one of the fastest cars I've ever driven or rode in. I took it to Cayuga the next summer and went 14.16!!!
