The problem with all this is I want to use the stock 66 shifter. It fits now, but I know that GM obviously made a crossmember to fit it. I know a yard that likely has over 100 65-60 B bodies, so next time there.....
He's gotta have at least one!

I just talked to a friend of mine who is a b body expert and he confirmed that the power glide and 4 spd cross members are the exact same.
Something must be going on with the shifter and arms, how long is the long outside shift rod??? That was the only one I didn't have for you right?

Are you using the bracket I gave you to mount the shifter body to the trans??

This is a complete shifter assembly that was already on the Muncie I put in.
I just can't figure out what is wrong here. It makes no sense but that shifter was already working fine in another car.
Ya but that car wasn't a b body though right???

Obviously 23 years without a B body was too long for me! And at that, I never had the shifter off my 4 speed car all the time I owned it. Swapped engines, that was it.

Don't matter Carl, its a going project now. Now that i almost have my summer obligations and misguided purchases out of the way I'm gonna get down to it too!
Closer it gets to being done the faster it'll get done!
15 hours of work today (well, mabe a bit less, time off for lunch and supper as well as a 1/2 hour nap) and what do I have? A 4 speed conversion that has about 3" of freeplay in the pedal with the rod adjusted to the max...
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr..................

Just had a thought in the shower ( I do some of my best thinking in the shower!)
I wonder if the pressure plate has some blocks in it that have to be removed when installing. I've seen that on some truck clutches. I looked at it when I was installing it but maybe I never checked it carefully enough.
If you've never seen those, they are blocks that hold the fingers in a partially released position.

The only thing that comes to mind is that since this set up is off a 6cyl, is the rod a different length from the cross shaft to the fork? I am sure because of the finger configeration of the 10 1/4" 6cyl pressure plate, they use the tall release bearing and if you are using an 11" clutch, the fingers are taller and they use the shorter release bearing.... But that being said, when I converted my '66 Chief to an 8, I reused all the same hardware except for the flywheel, clutch kit and release bearing.....
The bearing looks fine in the pic, you have the anti rattle clips in the recess of the bearing... How far ahead is the fork in the bell housing boot/hole? It should be further than half way... Wrong fork? Is it straight across or or curved towards the front for extra travel?
Looking at your picture, the fingers look low and you should be using a tall release bearing? Which one did you use? (just what I can see in the pictures)
