Wow!  This surprises me as I would have expected there to be a specially stamped tunnel piece for 4-speed cars.

Were early to mid-1960s cars done the same?  If not, then perhaps by 1969 the market for 4-gear cars was known to be small, so it was more cost-effective to just hack it out, since the customer would most likely never see it anyhow.  Still surprised, either way.

I had a buddy who worked at GM Oshawa back in the 60'S. He has since passed away, he had collection of 66 Chev B bodies. He told me about them cutting the 4 spd hole. Just use "the gas axe" the line workers were told....I've seen 2-3 of these and for sure the cutter did not have a steady hand....LOL

So bad news today.

The company rebuilding the original steering box called to say the casting is cracked and not useable.

So, disassembly and hot tank of a part that's no good.

Good thing I'm working overtime,

I am trying to keep this car as original as possible but fate is against me.

Fortunately, I do have another one.

Stamping number is interesting.

Variable ratio P/S steering box on '69 Parisienne, Grande Parisienne & 2+2; while Laurentian, Strato Chief & the Safaris came with constant ratio P/S boxes. In '70 the wagons had constant ratio, all other B-bodies had variable ratio for the optional power steering.

That's one part I'd never be afraid to upgrade to a quicker ratio. I've done it twice and was glad I did. Changed the road feel so much for the better.

Yes, Julian calendar. Does it make sense with the cowl tag?

Progress is slow but at least I have made one decision final.

15 inch wheels with front disc brakes.

Ordered the US made rallys and those united pacific caps. Reproduction small centre caps for rally wheels - Canadian Poncho (activeboard.com)

I looked at some used wheels but I may not go with trim rings and the gouges are tough to clean up on an old rim.

The caps are not exact but are made of very heavy gauge stainless steel and I think they are worth the money.

These beauties will have to live in my spare room, with all the other bright stuff, as there is no longer room in the shop.

Excellent choice. I also vote for redlines (you can get redline radials)

Where did you source the rims from Randy?

I'm assuming they are x 8"?

And is that a paint or primer on them (looks like paint)?

The car will be using "rollers" for quite a while so no rush for tires.

Not all will agree with me but I think that car has the perfect stance.

Mark's convertible sits the same.

Makes the car look smaller and more agile.

Just a note on the rims and caps,

The caps are not as tight on the rims as I would like.

I think it's the rims but I will check Thursday at the bodyshop with the rollers that we have for the car.

Mark asked for some picks

Did the simple revolution test.

Looks like the gears are 4:10

Not really what I want for the long roads but it will make the city fun.

Randy, you gotta lose those 4.10"s.

I have a nice 3.36 ring and pinion if you're interested.
