Took the gas cap off the 65, and was startled!

Took the cap off today to add another 5 gallons. Turning the cap it liberally blew off with a rush of vapor. Cold gas became hot with the car on the street at 25c all afternoon. Obviously the vent pipe is completely plugged. How? It's not kinked anywhere. Crazy. Have you heard of this?
