283 Cam upgrade?
(Preview)
I've been stockpiling parts and am looking to have a little fun with my powertrain this winter. I got a deal on some 305 heads (416 casting) so I no longer have to worry about the lack of hardened seats in my powerpacks. While I'm at it, I'm throwing on a Performer Intake and quadrajet carb. I'm already...

High beam/Low beam issue
(Preview)
I'm not sure if this is the right section but since I couldn't find an electrical section here it goes. So my issue is this: when I pull the knob to turn the lights on on my '61 all 4 headlights go on (both low and high beams). When I click/step on the floor dimmer switch instead of going to low beams all 4 he...

Thoughts on a SBC and glasspack exhaust
(Preview)
Since I want a throatier exhaust than stock on my '61 I thought of using one of those Thrush glasspack (a.k.a. cherrybomb) mufflers. The engine is a bone stock '72 vintage 2bbl 350 SBC and I'll be running the stock 2" diameter single exhaust with a Y-pipe. An oldtimer mechanic friend of the fam...

engine Oil viscosity for winter running
(Preview)
What oil would you guys recommend for a 350sbc running in the harsh northern Ontario winter? In the past I used 10w30 but usually stopped driving the car when the first snows fell. This time I foresee driving the car all winter long.

Wiring help! Any HEI experts out there?
(Preview)
The car in question is my '61 StratoChief (upgraded with a '72 vintage chevy 350 with HEI but the original generator {not alternator}) that's been in hibernation the last 7 years and so the mice did a nice number on the wiring. They took care of the horn wires, the water temp idiot light wires, the bloc...

Need heater hose routing pics/help for '61
(Preview)
So due to a leaky heater core I bypassed the core years ago and now I can't remember which hose goes where. Since I'm making things right and installing a working heater core, does anyone have pics of their heater hose routing they could share with me to shed some light on the issue. Thanks in advance.

Leak free valve covers on Chevy small block?
(Preview)
So I'm resurrecting my 61 Pontiac Strato Chief and it sports the SBC engine with your run of the mill stamped valve covers and if I recall when I used to drive the car on a regular basis (this was years and years ago) I could never get those suckers to seal for more than a few months at a time, always ruining...

(Preview)
Hello all. The subject is a '61 Pontiac with the original 3-on-tree manual trans and original open rear end (at least I think it's an open rear end without any 'posi'-trac type of apparatus). What oil brand/weight/type would you guys recommend in each?

Question: 61 Pontiac drive shaft (front)
(Preview)
Can anyone easily tell me the stock length of the front portion of the drive shaft for a 61 Pontiac/Chev 261 auto (cast glide). I swapped to an aluminum powerglide, more than one person measured twice, and we figured the front drive shaft needed to be shortened by 3 inches. Got it back from the shop, put i...

hey, so while I was getting things cleaned and ready for the tri-power I came across a number stamped on the block and was wondering if it was the engine ID? 834487748 I googled around and was unable to find this number referenced anywhere. Anyone have any ideas what this number could be?

Plug type and gap with older 283...
(Preview)
I've asked this question on a couple of other threads but didn't get much in the way of answers...we have a pretty "loose" 283 with a Petronix ignition and we're having trouble with AirCare idle CO. Plugs are Autolite 86's gapped at .035" (rough equiv. to AC R45's or R45S's I think)...

Hey guys Tried to nudge the '63 out of her slumber yesterday without success. She is 50 now, and does need her beauty rest, I guess. As mentioned, she turns over great, and I can see fuel in the filter below the carb. I'm wondering If there is a fuse or relay in the engine bay that isn't functioning. The...
